Artist Statement
The Earth is an extraordinary place that deserves both celebration and protection. My work highlights the intricate beauty of birds and the natural environments they inhabit. In care for that world, my practice is fully sustainable; each piece is created entirely from 100% recycled magazine paper sourced from old collections and community donations.
Using thousands of tiny paper fragments, I capture the unique details of each bird, layering colour and texture to reflect the delicate complexity of plants and the natural world. My simpler works focus on a single bird, emphasizing its colours, textures, layers, and expression. Whether conveying lighthearted joy, serene confidence, or quirky sass, these pieces are meant to evoke an emotion and bring a sense of personality into a space.
My more complex works explore themes of adaptation, resilience, environmental change, seasonal cycles, and connection to the land. As my practice continues to evolve and I spend more time in nature with the birds, I hope to further expand these ideas in ways that foster awareness, empathy, and responsibility toward the environments we share.
